RoaBot v1.0

Difficulty Easy

Focus Neutral Play and Shield Basics

Note that Melty Blood: Type Lumina does not save bots separately and it does not save them between uses of the game, you must re-input a bot whenever you restart the game, so we have used much simpler inputs that can sometimes be used across multiple characters (it keeps the inputs when switching characters or even playing online).

The intention of RoaBot is to help players to learn both the options and the timing for the interactions resulting from the game's Shield mechanic, and also to learn about certain of their options in grounded neutral.

The shield mechanic is an integral part to MBTL's over all defensive options and can be difficult for a newcomer to the series to fully understand when and why to use it and its various follow ups. It also greatly affects your movement and ability to respond to your opponent's pressure. The intention of this bot is to help train your flexibility in approaching movement, anti-airs and proper shield use while under pressure. RoaBot's movement capacity and screen control make him an ideal candidate for working out your various shield options versus a moving opponent and under pressure while still trying to maintain proper spacing for punishes and momentum.

Goals

Completing each action gives 1 point. Whenever your opponent is defeated, check your health rating, and set your Health to approximately that value for the next round, and continue your count. Try to get to 10 points without being defeated (if you are, reset your health to 100% and restart your count).

Variants

This bot has specific variants for Action #1 and Action #5 based on the style of character you play:

Reversing this will make it harder and require more reaction speed, but does not guarantee that you will learn how to effectively play the matchup.

Special MeltyBot Input Instruction Notes

MBTL starts recordings using the X button/Confirm button on controllers. It begins the recording instantly. However, it will also accept the input that is bound to this button in the Controller Configuration as the first part of the recorded input, if you hold down the button when you start the recording. It also gives you just enough time to hold a direction as well. Use this method to record the inputs. For example, Action #2, change your X/Confirm button to A+B in the Controller Settings, and you should be able to get it to accept 4A+B as soon as possible.

Action #1

For Light/Pouncy

5A, 2A, 2A, 214 end recording instantly.

For Heavy/Charging

5A, 2A, 2A, 236 end recording instantly.

Set A as your X/confirm button. When playing into itself you should be see Roa using his lightning projectile for the Light/Pouncy verion, or his lightning dash for the Heavy/Charging version.

Action #2

4A+B 1/4A+D 236 end recording instantly

Set A+B as your X/confirm button to make recording frame 1 4A+B possible. Make sure to get the 4A+D if you have a quick close-range overhead move or use a lot of Instant Air Dash. When Action #2 plays into Action #1, you should see his lightning dash.

Action #3

From close, 5C (both kicks), 6C (should combo), end recording instantly when the 6C makes contact.

Variant

From close, 5C (both kicks), [hidden 4/5D], 6C (should combo), end recording when the 6C makes contact.

Set C as your X/confirm button. 5C is a somewhat long two hit move. This gives you time to hold any direction you want during the move's animation, before you need to combo into 6C. Therefore, wait until he does the second kick of his 5C, while holding direction of your choice, then completely release any direction you were holding before pressing the 6C. From various testing we have determined that while holding a block direction during the 5C animation is helpful, it is not helpful enough to spend too much time trying to get that into the input if you are having difficulty with doing so.

The reason that including the 4/5D in Action #3 is a variant is because the D in Action #2 can be followed by any other button whereas the D in Action #3 is always followed by C and that can change how effective he is.

Action #4

9A+B, [hidden 9A+D, (9)B+C] end recording instantly

This is the input where you do not hold the button to start the recording, however you may still want to set A+B to X/confirm so that you can press it again as quickly as possible after the recording starts. Try to do all this before he lands, and set your buttons accordingly, but it's fine and functional if you can't do this.

Action #5

For Light/Pouncy

2B+C, 2B+C, 236 end recording instantly.

For Heavy/Charging

2B+C, 2B+C, 214 end recording instantly.

Set B+C as your X/confirm button. When playing this action into itself you should see him use his lightning dash for the Light/Pouncy verion, or his lightning projectile for the Heavy/Charging version.
